Excellent location rated 9.2/10!
We loved the pools, outdoor swings, bar/restaurant, corn hole lawn games, easy parking and excellent customer service. The beds were very comfortable & the room was very clean. We especially loved that the resort was family and dog friendly. I really appreciated check-out being at noon, so we were able to enjoy the pools in the morning too. If you’re traveling with your pup and want a comfortable place to stay on the Main Street in town, I recommend Dr. Wilkinson’s.
funky vibe good detailed touches great location solid staff
The spa services were amazing. We did mud baths which were so fun and relaxing. Our attendant was great. The bar staff was also super attentive. We appreciated that we could get a drink delivered to the mineral pools. They also supplied aromatherapy for the room which smelled fantastic and great reusable water bottles in the rooms. The whole property was super cute like a modern 1960s retreat.
Amazing staff, beautiful comfortable pool lounges, comfortable room with very nice linens. Lots of available spa services and even a cold plunge! A bar next to the pool and restaurant that will bring food to you poolside. Cute retro fridge and tea kettle added nice charm to the room.
service, food, amenities and location were amazing!

Old Faithful Geyser Of California
There are two geysers in the United States named Old Faithful Geyser.
The better known one is in Yellowstone National Park and is probably one of the most famous geysers in the world.
The name Faithful comes from the fact that it has been regularly spewing hydrothermal water since ancient times.
Another lesser known one is located in Calistoga, California.
It is small but faithfully spurts out about every 20 minutes for about 5 minutes.
If you are not a hot spring enthusiast, you may not be happy to pay the $15.00 admission fee just for this, but check Groupon for any discounts

The Doctor Who Made History
Five minutes drive from the geyser, in the charming downtown Calistoga, I noticed an antiquated railroad car.
Opened in 1868, Calistoga Station is the second oldest existing station building in California.
Although the railroad was abandoned, the station, along with its trains, was developed as a commercial facility.
Across the street, on the other side of the station, was an inconspicuous hotel.
This is actually the birthplace of the mud bath, now one of the main attractions of Napa Valley tourism.
Dr. Wilkinson, who became a chiropractor in 1944, leased what is now the Indian Springs Resort & Spa in Calistoga in 1946.
Attracted by the area’s hot springs and abundant volcanic ash, he opened this facility in 1952.
At the time, it offered only mud baths based on its own recipe, but later added lodgings and a bathhouse.
Mud baths have become widely known as a Calistoga specialty and can now be experienced at numerous places in town.
Having experienced the mud baths at Golden Haven, I decided to take a look at the bathhouse here.
Behind the building were two outdoor pools.
The water temp were 91 and 82 degrees F.
It did not feel much like a hot spring.
If you want to warm up, the indoor bath is recommended.
Stepping into the indoor bath after pulling back the steam-fogged glass door, my mood was lifted, even though clothing was required.
The smell of chlorine, which was not so strong, was still noticeable to the nose.
The water temp was 104 degrees F.
An Iconic Wellness Destination Reimagined
Set in Calistoga, California and located 20 minutes away from Downtown Napa , Dr. Wilkinsons has long been a fixture on the Napa Valley scene. The property originally opened in 1952, when the Doc introduced his mud baths to the world. Now, the resort has been reimagined for the modern-day traveler, while maintaining its retro charm and playful mid-century design. The spa is an essential part of the Dr. Wilkinsons experience, with geothermal mineral pools, aromatherapy treatments, and the legendary mud baths. The guest rooms and cottages are fresh and modern with a dash of nostalgia, featuring natural woods, wide windows, retro furniture, and fun pops of color. We have been Muddy and Relaxed since 1952.

Sb Architects Reimagined The Original Building While Honoring Its Classic Details
Dr. Wilkinsons originally opened in 1952 when the Doc introduced his famous mud baths and a signature wellness treatment known as The Works. When SB Architects stepped in for the renovation, they opted to lean into the mid-century modern elements. Outside, a grassy backyard with mountain views, a swimming pool, custom picnic blankets, and swings invites guests to enjoy the Calistoga climate. For large groups, the freestanding Victorian Housebuilt in 1924features five separate bedrooms and a private porch with Napa Valley views.

Edg Interior Architecture + Design And Sb Architects Renovate Dr Wilkinsons Backyard Resort & Mineral Springs
Wine isnt the only draw to Napa Valley. The region is also famous for its mineral-rich hot springs. Decades ago, a certain chiropractor named John Wilkinson was ahead of his time, studying alternative medicine and wellness practices, believing in the restorative and preventative properties of mud baths and massages. So much so that, in 1952, he and his wife Edy opened Dr. Wilkinsons Backyard Resort & Mineral Springs, a one-building spaand an excellent example of California mid-century designin Calistoga. The Wilkinsons children sold the property to Chartres Lodging Group in 2019, and, following a year of renovations by EDG Interior Architecture + Design and SB Architects, plus the COVID-19 shutdown, it has reopened. Among highlights are the addition of eight guest rooms, bringing the total to 50, a new restaurant, fittingly called House of Better, enhanced spa facilities and mineral pools, and a pair of graphic murals, all done in an Instagrammable retro palette of pale wood, mustard, peach, and cobalt. Its, as the propertys original neon signage declares, where wellness meets happiness.

The Interiors Strike A Skillful Balance: Theyre Retro Yet Modern Surprising And Soothing And Playful But Elevated

Inflected with a dose of nostalgia, the lobby features a range of custom artwork, including a signature mineral-water fountain and wall art made of clay disks in honor of the hotels mud baths. One-of-a-kind murals and original mosaics are found throughout the resort, as well as in a refurbished Victorian House that accommodates up to 15. Guestrooms offer modern mid-century furnishing amid original brick walls and calming, neutral tones with pops of colorthink: salmon, orange, or turquoise. True to the resorts nostalgic spirit, a replica of Dr. Wilkinsons 1952 Buick is parked at the entrance.
