Factors That Affect Your Patio Door Blinds Installation Cost:
Type of Material
Like all window coverings, patio door blinds are available in a full range of materials, from vinyl and aluminum to fabric, bamboo and solid wood. Consider which materials are right for your patio doors, your home and your budget.
Stock or Custom
Stock patio door blinds can be purchased off the shelf at your nearest Home Depot however, custom-purchaesd patio door blinds are measured to fit your doors and frames specially, also allowing for more style and material options.
Not all patio door blinds manufacturers offer products for the same prices. Products from some more premium brands may come at a higher cost.
Motorized options are now available for your patio door blinds and have become increasingly affordable over the years. Choose from a range of hard-wired or battery-operated options.
Some of the newer types of patio door blinds can be operated remotely, timed to adjust automatically, or even controlled through your phone or smart home interface.
Number of Patio Doors
If your project involves double doors instead of single doors, or multiple patio doors rather than just one, you can expect a higher cost for your patio door blinds installation.
Type of Patio Doors
Patio door blinds need to match to the needs and/or function of your patio doors. Vertical blinds, for example, are not an appropriate option for French doors but are well-suited for sliding doors.

Custom Drapery Gives Sliding Glass Doors A Polished Look
Custom drapes are gorgeous, luxurious, and eye-catching nothing polishes off a home design like they do. Custom drapes are the perfect choice for privacy, too.
Stoneside has over 300 different fabric options to choose from, from sheer panels to blackout material. Unlike lightweight curtain panels that come in standard sizes, our drapes are custom made for your exact sliding glass doors, and provide the vertical manipulation youd get from vertical blinds and vertical cellular shades.
Roller shades and solar shades are great partners for custom drapery. Your roller and solar shades can be used throughout the day, and your custom drapes can be pulled closed during the evening when privacy is more important than accessibility.
Because youll likely open and close your patio door often, its best to have your drapes end just above the floor, rather than longer and pooled like some styles of drapery. You wont have to worry about them getting dusty, dragging on the floor, or posing a tripping hazard as you pass through. Your drapes will give you all the privacy youre looking for, without getting in the way.
Roller Shade For Patio Door
We’ve used a pinch pleat curtain on a traverse rod for many years, but are looking to change this up while we’re painting and redecorating. The curtain also gets a little dirty from being so close to the ground and with our cats walking around and behind it.
I was thinking of using a roller shade for the window. We only use this at night for privacy, so it would either be up or down. I am not a fan of vertical blinds, and the vertical panels are probably going to be cat fur magnets and difficult to clean.
Has anyone used a roller shade for such a large window? Is a manual cordless pull feasible for a 78″ wide panel that reaches to the ground? I’m leaning towards a motorized shade just based on how large it is, but there is both the additional expense and potential for failure to consider. I was looking at the Architect Blackout roller shade from Select Blinds, but they only have the manufacturer’s 2 year warranty on the motor, which gives me pause, and they can’t do a cordless option over 72″. A cord seems rather unattractive.
I was thinking of something pretty tailored looking, like the inspiration photo below, but with just one single wide panel vs the multiple. We’d have drapery panels on the windows on the adjoining wall to soften the look. We’ve removed the valences from this room the patio door is on the right of the morning room.

Vertical Blinds Are A Standard Go
Were all familiar with vertical blinds as sliding door window treatments. And people tend to either love them or not. But theres a reason theyre so widely used.
Vertical blinds are exceptionally functional for glass doors, as they give tons of flex and versatility. Theyre especially convenient for frequent use of your patio doors, with enough wiggle room to let in the dog should you want to keep the blinds closed. The side-to-side movement keeps your doors functioning, but allows you to use your blinds effectively.
Theyre also not as limited as they once were.
Youre probably familiar with the basic, white or off-white vertical blinds. And you might not have fond memories of the cheap versions in your first apartment. But Stoneside has many more options for you to choose from. Patterns, fabrics, textures, and colors can now add even more style to your vertical blinds. Be sure to check out our S shaped vertical blinds, which fit together more snugly to maximize privacy and minimize light sneaking in between blinds.
With all these options to choose from, vertical blinds can be the perfect solution for your home.
And while vertical blinds are a great option for any glass sliding door, there are plenty of other options if youre looking for a different aesthetic.
The natural light pouring in keeps your home looking bright, airy, and pleasant. But sometimes theres just too much direct sun, and not enough privacy.

Best Choices For Patio Doors:
Vertical Blinds, Vertical Sheers, Panel Tracks, Plantation Shutters, Drapes
Glass patio doors provide a beautiful, open view, however they can also allow in too much harsh light at certain times of the day and provide a full open view for anyone looking into your home. When choosing blinds or shades for your sliding door, consider the amount of light they allow through and the privacy they provide.
Vertical blinds are a popular, practical, and durable option for high traffic areas such as patio doors. They are affordable and easy to operate, and will open in the same direction as the sliding door. Simply tilt the vanes open and close to provide varying degrees of light control and privacy.
Sheer verticals offer the same functionality as classic vertical blinds along with the elegant soft look of sheer curtains. They pair well with dressy or contemporary decor and are a lightweight alternative to traditional blinds. Coordinate vertical sheers on your patio door with luxurious sheer horizontal Serenity and Cascade shades on nearby windows.
Drapery is a versatile and stylish option for sliding doors that adds a refined touch to your room and coordinates well with other window treatments. There are endless combinations of drapery material and hardware finishes to choose from to match your rooms personality.
Best Patio Door Shades

Our most popular option is Vertical Blinds, which provide superb light control and are available wide variety of textures and patterns in vinyl or fabric. Solar Shades Can Block The Sun From Your Sliding Glass Door Without Sacrificing Your View
Solar shades are a subset of roller shades. As such, they have the same classic, streamlined look of other roller shades. They also have that smaller stack that wont keep your friends and family members paranoid theyll hit their heads each time they walk onto your patio.
However, solar shades have the added benefit of blocking UV rays, managing sunlight, and mitigating heat transference. Youll be able to enjoy your dining room table without roasting from the afternoon sun or being blinded from the glare. UV rays pose both a health hazard and can take their toll on home furnishings. Solar shades are specifically designed to filter them out and reduce the harmful effects from UV rays.
And solar shades offer a range of opacity, so you can block more or less light depending on your preference. The level of opacity is called the openness factor and refers to the tightness of the fabrics weave used in your shade. At Stoneside, we offer solar shades with 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, and 14% openness factors, so you can choose how much natural light youd like to see transferred through your shade.
A solar shade with an openness factor of 1% is very tightly woven, blocking much of the light .
A solar shade with 14% openness, on the other hand, wil preserve your view similar to a window screen, while still blocking many of the UV rays and reducing glare.
The higher your openness factor, the more view youll maintain, even through the shade.

Explore The Many Window Treatment Options For Large Expanses
While vertical blinds used to be the most common way to cover large windows and patio doors, theyre no longer your only option. From cellular shades and sheers to sliding panels and plantation shutters, there are a variety of window treatments that can fit your needs and personal style.
- Vertical cellular shades: If you live in a particularly hot or cold climate, vertical cellular shades are ideal because they offer superior energy efficiency. And whats nice is that when you open them, the pleated fabric contracts almost completely, so you have plenty of view-through.
- Sheer vertical shades: With soft, sheer fabric facings attached to soft rotating fabric vanes, sheer shades beautifully diffuse natural light while offering the functionality of vertical blinds.
- Panel track blinds: Made of flat, fabric panels that slide on a track, panel track blinds are a sleek, contemporary alternative to vertical blinds. When open, they stack tightly to optimize your view, and when closed, you can enjoy their gorgeous texture and style.
- Plantation shutters: Shutters are also a great choice because theyre as durable as they are beautiful. But before choosing an operating system, check how much clearance you have around your door or window. As long as you have a couple feet of space, you could get an operating system that enables the panels to fold like a fan when opened, revealing your patio door completely.
